Description:Summary:

The Supplier Quality Engineer evaluates suppliers' operations and products for compliance with company quality standards. Writes reports, rates, and makes suggestions regarding supplier selection. Compiles data for documentation of test procedures and may prepare reports for presentation to management. Familiar with a variety of engineering and quality assurance concepts, best practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks and may lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Duties:Duties / Responsibilities:

• Assist in supplier selection process and part approval process.
• Perform onsite quality audits and clearly communicate Quality Assurance Expectations to suppliers.
• Review supplier capabilities and authorize as appropriate and with core team first article releases of production parts.
• Participate in product development core teams. Provide quality and reliability planning at early stages of new product development (APQP).
• Review and summarize results of supplier performance for corporate metrics, including corrective and preventive action plans.
• Collaborate with product development / sustain engineering, product quality (internal) engineering and manufacturing engineering to prepare quality plans for incoming and inspections prior to the release of components to manufacturing processes.
• Review and report in-process data from suppliers’ manufacturing processes and facilitate supplier corrective and preventive actions as appropriate using 8-D methodology for root cause analysis.
• Lead internal process audits within Supply Chain Operations group.
• Transfer supplier knowledge to Contract Manufacturer or Internal Manufacturing Operations and assist them solving concern as issues are escalated.
• Develop Receiving Incoming Inspection Quality Inspection Plans. Initiate quality standards and inspection techniques. Support the implementation of measurement and evaluation methods for electro-mechanical devices and Make-to-Spec components. Validate and approve test methods and equipment prior to production release.
• Report supplier quality metrics. Develop processes for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data as necessary
• Establish programs to evaluate and audit the precision and accuracy of test and measurement equipment used in product reliability testing and used to support manufacturing. Execute GR&R or process capability studies as necessary.
• Support the RMA and MRB processes. Support the development and implementation of methods to evaluate RMA products. Ensure that RMA dispositions satisfy specifications and control plan requirements. Ensure MRB disposition vendor issues are properly addressed. Determine ownership of nonconforming material. Determine and track all costs associated with defective material.
• Conduct structured team problem solving when necessary. Manage problem containment at supply base. Ensure and validate the implementation of effective corrective actions.
• Support continuous improvement and cost reduction projects. Ensure continued compliance to product specifications and quality requirements during the development of projects.
• Support and lead Quality Plan improvements within Inventory Management and Fulfillment teams

Qualifications:Experience & Education Requirements

4-year degree in Technical discipline, B.S. Mechanical Engineer / B.S. Electrical Engineer or related field. Relevant work experience (5-8 years) combined with Process Engineering, Quality Engineering and Lean Manufacturing disciplines will be considered in lieu of formal degree.

Experience managing complex assemblies and supplier processes for the following commodities are a must:
• Sheet Metal Fabrication (frames, enclosures, panels, etc.)
• Machine Parts
• PCBA
• Injection molding
• Electromechanical components (DC Motors, Servo motors)
• Wire harness
The candidate must have strong supplier quality background with lean discipline and process improvement experience.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, Process Capability (Cpk), Statistical Process Control (SPC) and apply these principles to receiving incoming inspections (external suppliers), internal (suppliers’) manufacturing operations.
• Experience with GR&R studies and metrology equipment, such as CMM (not an expert but back up user), calipers, height gages, dial indicator.
• Training operators on new quality procedures
• Strong supplier management background, supplier audits, part approval, supplier score cards, corrective actions, MRB-RTV disposition, Field Failure Analysis follow up with suppliers
• Support cross-functional new product introduction and sustaining product efforts.
• Experience implementing lean disciplines and 5-S to internal processes, particularly in the area of inventory management and handling of expensive components into storage or kitting to production line.
